I love dogs. Seriously, how can someone even hate a dog??
So anything with dogs immediately grabs my attention. Whether they're walking down the street, or even in an ad - I will stop dead in my tracks and give a little shoutout to the dog and/or its breed.
So naturally, I am TOTALLY watching Through a Dog's Eyes - a new PBS documentary that focuses on service dogs and the lives that they affect.
Best part about it?? It's narrated by Neil Patrick Harris.
LEGEN - wait for it because I hope you like milk - DARY.
Check out the trailer:
Through a Dog's Eyes airs on April 21st at 8PM, on PBS.

Scaredy Cat Cub
OMG you guys, I cracked up for like 10 minutes after watching this video. Michelle Collins of Best Week Ever posted it, and like, I just can't stop watching it. It's some kind of animal show on Korean TV, but you really don't need to know Korean to understand it. The bear cub below is HILARIOUS in his fear of, well, basically anything that moves. I do feel a little bad laughing at its expense when it is obviously SO freakin terrified of the tigers it is forced to be near, but OMG. HAHAHA. I even earmarked my favorite parts for you guys, even if you don't watch the whole clip, you must watch 0:44 (when the cub first sees the tiger), and 2:49 (when he gets scared by a shadow). HAHA.

Fail of the Day: Dog Sack
Another reason why the olden times were funny. If you have a dog, yet, hate transporting it inside the confines of your car, hang it out on the window! Fido sure will enjoy the wind in his face, and the seasonal thrills, such as pouring rain, snow, and hail!
THANK GOD the times have changed. Can you imagine if this idea actually flew? Idea FAIL, fo sho.

Photo of the Day: Pink Dolphin!
About a year ago, I wrote a post mentioning a certain friend's disdain for dolphins. Something about them raping people.
Perusing through one of my favorite sites of all time, Cute Overload, I saw the following photo:
Apparently a rare, albino dolphin was spotted north of the Gulf of Mexico, and has been described to be "stunningly pink."
As much as I think dolphins can be cute, the idea of a pink dolphin with red eyes freaks me out :x

Guess Which One Is Which?
Which one is the real thing and which is the doll?
This has got to be the cutest thing I've read all day. Look how cute .. Mr. Flufferbutt owl cuddling with a doll. So cute and sad :*(

Cuteness of the Day: Cute Things Falling Asleep
I originally was going to write about the ludicrousness of the adult entertainment industry wanting to ask the government for a $5 million bailout, but then I came across this site, so here is a post that is 180 from the dirtiness of Larry Flynt and Joe Francis. It must have been a slow newsday at CNN, cause they had a story on Cutethingsfallingasleep.org. OMG. SO CUTE. I think sleepy animals and babies are so cute. Cause you know, they're pretty helpless when it comes to that stuff. And I also think babies who sleep with their mouths open are the cutest things ever! Fully grown humans, not so much. And so, just like I watched those uber cute shiba inu puppies for like an entire day nonstop, this site will be my little obsession for today. What work?
Below is my favorite sleepy baby ever. I love his sister watching TV next to him (such nonchalance!) almost as much as the sleepy baby himself. :)

The Puppedential Debate with Anderson Cooper
Unless you were living under a rock this week, you probably know that the Obamas has made the move to D.C., though, not yet into the White House. With the inauguration in less than 2 weeks, everyone is curious about how the Obamas will adapt to living in the White House .. and what dog they are going to freaking get!
The Daily Show did a great bit about the question on everyone's mind, featuring Anderson Cooper:

Site of the Day: F*ck You, Penguin
The bf shared a site with me the other day, claiming that it was soo hilarious and funny. So being the thoughtful gf, I totally skimmed the site, politely agreed without actually reading entries, and forgot about it. But after perusing through the usual sites via RSS feed, I asked him for the link again .. and LOVED the site.
F*ck You, Penguin is basically a site that features an animal in a cute photo .. and the writer "tells the animal what's what."
My favorite entry by far is probably this little fella.

Cute Animals of the Day: Shiba Inu Puppy Cam
This is spreading on the internetz almost as fast as you can say, "CUTENESS!" It's a 24-hr live cam of these uber cute shiba inu puppies, and they are so cute and so oddly addicting to watch. I caught myself watching the pups nap the other day, for like 5 minutes. In the back of my head, I was thinking, WHAT ARE YOU DOING, JEN SHIN, YOU HAVE A CRAPLOAD OF WORK TO DO!! But uh, the puppies won out. Also I was really hoping that one of them would wake up and do something. Anything. Alas, I stopped watching and the puppies went on napping, but it's oddly comforting to know that they're there, waiting for me, whenever I want to spend a couple of minutes with them.
Now if they only had a Suri Cruise 24 hr live cam... Wait, is that creepy? Whatever.

Cutest Photos Ever! #830
As part of my daily routine for surfing, Cute Overload is one of the first sites I check up on for updates. Yes, I know, I know .. I always rave about this stinkin' site. But on a day when I'm feel super under the weather, the following photos featured in the site (aptly titled "Doppelgängeroverloäd") made me smile:

Why I Hate People: Reason #908
What's red, white, and blue all over?
An unfortunate pooch was displayed rather "patriotically" outside of the Republican National Convention. Poor pup, it has no idea how ridiculous it looks, being seen at at the Republican Convention :(
(But in all seriousness, who does that to their dog?)

Why I HEART Dogs: Reason # 107
No matter how down I am, nothing else can cheer me up better than seeing a puppeh. Something about dogs just makes me relax and smile .. probably because I pretty much had the world's best dog ever, but also because when it comes down to it, there is nothing better than a loyal dog by your side .. Balto, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, you name it .. I've probably watched it and weeped like a kid.
But rather than seeing those Disney-esque films of man's best friend, it really is heart-warming to hear about real-life examples of a dog's loyalty:
GREELEY, Colorado (AP) -- A dog stood guard over her owner's body for up to six weeks after the man committed suicide on the remote northeastern Colorado plains, authorities said. The body of 25-year-old Jake Baysinger of La Salle, Colorado, was found Sunday on the Pawnee National Grasslands about 75 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado. Cash, his German shepherd, was found beside him, thin and dehydrated but still alive. The dog had apparently survived by eating mice and rabbits, authorities said...Investigators said the dog probably kept coyotes away from the body. (CNN.com)
Yup, that story did bring tears to my eyes. Go out and hug a puppy today, guys.

Touching Clip of the Day: Christian the Lion
I'm not an animal lover, but my cold cold heart melted a little when I saw this clip. It's pretty self-explanatory, but basically the video is about the reunion of Christian the lion, and the 2 men who had raised him for a year before letting him go in the wild. A year after his release, the men decided to go visit him, even though they were warned that the lion would probably not remember them. But lo and behold he does remember, and it's actually really moving. A little disturbing, I have to say, because if a lion was running full speed at me, no matter if I had been his owner or not, I think the first thought to run through my head would be, "S**t, I'm so f**ked," NOT, "Awww, he remembers me!!" But, that's just me being my cynical self. Maybe cause this video is set to one of the sappiest songs of all time, Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, but even I kinda teared up at the sight of this huge mountain lion pouring out his affection for his former masters. Over 7 million people have watched the clip so far, and the 2 men were even interviewed on the Today show this week.

Website of the Day: CuteOverload
Anyone who knows me can tell you about how much I HEART animals. But really, it's not ALL animals. I just kind of heart puppehs.
One of my favorite websites of ALL TIME to visit on a daily basis is CuteOverload. But not only do they feature the cutest puppehs around, but various other animals, too (kittens, seals, red pandas, birds, bunnies ... the list is endless!). And one of my favorite things about CO is the fact that they seem to always feature Pomeranians, which happen to be one of my favorite breeds of dogs.
I mean honestly, how can you not smile after seeing a face like this:

For The Sake of Art?

A few nights ago, I received a chain email from a friend. Like with all other chain emails, I had the same reaction: roll my eyes and hit 'delete.' However, this particular subject title caught my eye. I opened the email, only to read the horrifying news about how a sick, so-called artist who was attempting to redo a past exhibit:
In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death. For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.
Now anyone who knows me can tell you how much I heart dogs. I can pretty much name any breed of dog just by seeing it (though, the new hybrids tend to throw me off with their silly names). To see pictures of an emaciated dog exhibited as "art" was too much for me to even believe. Luckily, about 2 million other animal lovers signed the online petition, too, and this madness "for the sake of art" was put to a stop:
After pressure from WSPA, the Honduras AHPRA and the public, the Biennial organizers have agreed not only to make AHPRA official observers but also to include new competition rules that prohibit the abuse of animals. While we are satisfied that no-one will be able to abuse animals in the name of art during this forthcoming exhibition, stronger laws need to be in place that prohibit animal cruelty. WSPA and member society UCC are currently supporting a campaign, led by the Commission for Natural Resources and Environment of the Nicaraguan Assembly, calling for legislation to protect animals in Nicaragua. (wspa.com)This is just one battle won. Everyday, there are millions of animals around the world treated cruelly for the sake of art or whatever sick pleasure. So if you have a heart, sign the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare.

Happy Hump Day! (pun intended): Part II
A dolphin swam up to two distressed whales that appeared headed for death in a beach stranding in New Zealand and guided them to safety, witnesses said Wednesday....The actions of the bottlenose dolphin -- named Moko by residents who said it spends much of its time swimming playfully with humans at the beach -- amazed would-be rescuers and an expert who said they were evidence of the species' friendly nature. (from CNN.com)---
Whenever I read news bits about dolphins, it's usually about how friendly and intelligent they are. Not once, have I ever read about them being a threat in the oceans or terrorizing beach-goers; rather, you tend to hear stories about people wanting to save them.
But a mutual friend of Life in Boxes claims that dolphins aren't as cute and friendly as one might think. In fact, according to this friend, there have been several cases in which dolphins rape humans.
According to our friend, apparently, man's best friend of the waters have been known to rape humans. "I'm being serious," our friend exclaimed. "There's videos on Youtube!"
First off, I wonder what kind of people search "dolphins raping people" on Youtube. The idea of doing that really scarred me, but upon reading today's CNN news bit on a friendly dolphin that spends its time playing with humans at the nearby beach, I decided it was time to seek the truth.
It turns out to be nothing too graphic (it's actually quite funny). If anything, the people were asking for it, and they seemed keen on recording it (again, it's just funny to watch). I guess if anything, you should see it for yourself.

Happy Hump Day (pun-intended!)
I read an article in the recent issue of Maxim about bizarre animal-related deaths. One in particular caught my eye:
A 60 year old woman was killed by what the press refers to as her "amorous" pet camel. The animal apparently tried to have sex with its owner, after the 330 pound beast knocked her down on the ground and laid on top of her.
The camel was a gift from the woman's husband and daughter.
---
I love how the article ends with the officer being quoted saying, "She had a love of exotic pets."
Zing!
