Tomorrow is Earth Hour, the day when all around, everyone turns off their lights for an hour:
JOIN WWF FOR EARTH HOUR
Saturday, March 27, at 8:30 pm local time
Earth Hour is WWF's initiative to unite millions of people worldwide in boldly stating their concern about climate change by doing something quite simple: turning off their lights for one hour.
Earth Hour sends the message that we care about our planet and our future, that we want to “turn the lights off” on pollution and climate change and switch to a cleaner, safer, more secure world. (Earth Hour)
I mean, how simple is that? Especially after most of Northern NJ was without power when that big storm hit 2 weeks ago, this should be a piece of cake, people!

It's That Time of the Year Again: Earth Hour 2010

BeautifulPeople.com
Happy New Year, Life in Box-ers! I kinda love this time of the year, when everything feels fresh and new, and people make a mad dash to upkeep the resolutions they've made for the upcoming year. Typically one of the most popular New Years resolutions has to do with physical appearance- getting to the gym, losing a couple of pounds, taking care of your body. Aaaaand, if this isn't a motivating factor to get your butt to the gym in a regular manner, then I don't know what is. Since the beginning of this year, a dating site called Beautiful People has kicked out about 5,000 of its members after they've posted pictures "revealing that they have let themselves go." Come again? Basically, Beautiful People is an elite dating service that prides itself on being a community of people who place priority on looks, and well, if you are not beautiful enough, then you are not allowed to be a member. Users can join only after enough members vote them "beautiful" 48 hours after their profile is uploaded. Elitist? Supremely. Hilarious? Totes Mcgotes.
Apparently the 5,000 members who were kicked out gained a little too much weight after the holidays, and so their memberships have been revoked. But fret not, lose the weight and register again! I actually find this whole thing realllllly hilarious. And a tad ridiculous, but I so appreciate the honesty of it all, summed up nicely by Robert Hintze, the founder: "As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld... Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded." HAHA! Best.company.statement.EVER.

Tech Geek 101: Onyx
Today, we have a guest post from our Technology expert friend Andy. He'll be contributing weekly articles on all things tech related, so enjoy!
Ok… so everyone knows that Mac’s are more stable, virus free, and fun to use than a PC (or so says the Apple commercials) and while this is true, it’s still a good idea to do some housekeeping so your shiny new $3000 Facebooking machine runs top notch.
An easy, and more importantly, FREE option is to download a program called Onyx.
This is one of the top downloaded apps that basically does everything to keep the inner cockles of your machine tidy. A host of actions, such as repairing permissions, verifying your disk and clearing caches can be done with a couple button clicks (you can ignore all of what I just said in the last sentence if you really don’t care). Basically, when you run the program, all you have to do is click 'ok,' enter your password, click on the automation tab, make sure everything is checked, and hit 'run.' You’ll probably notice an improvement right away. Give it a go about once a month and you’re set!

Top Wikipedia Articles
My two best friends at work are Google and Wikipedia. Such a wealth of information lies at your fingertips, whether I'm using it for actual work (20% of the time) or to fulfill my personal inquiries (80% of the time). Honestly, this is my favorite article on Wiki: pet skunks. They like to be talked to! How freakin cute!!!!
Anyways, Wiki recently released their 50 most viewed articles of 2009, and the results are somewhat predictable, but also interesting. The Beatles still remain a pop culture force to be reckoned with, coming in at #2 with over 111,000 hits a day, and Micheal Jackson, another cultural icon was #3 with over 70,000 hits per day. The rest of the 50 pretty much sums up trendy topics of this last year- Slumdog Millionaire (#15), Swine Flu (#29), Megan Fox (#31), Robert Pattinson (#41- I probably contributed a lot to this one...). But I LOOOOVE the fact that people are still looking up Adolf Hitler (#17), Sex (#21), and my favorite on the list: Vagina (#36). Hahaha!

12 Most Annoying Facebook Users
Hi, my name is Jen Shin, and I'm addicted to Facebook. I check it like 6 times a day, I update it quite often, and I like to secretly and not-so-secretly stalk people. However, I keep my little addiction to myself, and I don't think I am any of the following 12 types of annoying Facebookers that CNN has identified. All annoying (hopefully I don't do any of the following), but I think my favorite has to be the Chronic Inviter: "Support my cause. Sign my petition. Play Mafia Wars with me. Which 'Star Trek' character are you? Here are the 'Top 5 cars I have personally owned.' Here are '25 Things About Me.' Here's a drink. What drink are you? We're related! I took the 'What President Are You?' quiz and found out I'm Millard Fillmore! What president are you?" Sound familiar?? Yeah. You know who you are!!!

Site of the Day: E-mails from an Asshole

I've found another winner: Emails from an Asshole.
As stated by the the site: "This is a collection of e-mails I have sent to people who post classified ads. My goal is to mess with them, confuse them, and/or piss them off. These are the ones that succeeded."

Most Useful Site EVER: Run Pee
You know what annoying about going to see a movie? The fact that movies are super epic. I mean, yeah, not as epic as Titanic, with its whopping running time of 3 hours, but you've got to admit, movies are soo effing long.
But of course, with that said, as a movie lover (yes, I will dish out the freaking $12+ to see a new movie), I HAVE TO watch every.single.minute. Which means .. my bladder dies.
Fear not, though! Run Pee is this awesome site that pretty much lets you know at what point in a movie is an optimal time to get up and use the bathroom. They have a huge selection of movies for you to take a gander at, including ones that are currently out in theaters.
And don't worry, it's pretty much spoiler-free (you can unscramble a text summary of a movie scene you might miss, if you take more than 4 minutes for a designated bathroom run).

Asian Poses!
I have a site for all you people with Asian fetishes! OR, a site for those who just want to laugh at the most ridonk, saccharinely-sweet, over the top poses known to man kind. Asian Poses is a blog that features photos of Asian girls employing their best annoying pose. It's actually pretty funny stuff, because we've all seen these poses and have made fun of, if not striked one (or two or three) of them ourselves. The girls are pretty, if that helps. I think I'm going to start employing the 'Call me!' pose in all of my pictures from now on. :) Call Me!

Clever Idea: Emergency Cuff Links
In case you have been living under a rock, Lifehacker is an awesome site. "Tips and downloads for getting stuff done." Aptly said.
With that said, this article on emergency cuff links stood out to me even though a) I am not a boy, b) I don't wear dress shirts that require cuff links, and c) I don't get what the purpose of cuff links are. All I do know is that I notice cuff links when boys wear them.
I'm definitely linking this to all my guy friends.

Fun Stuff of the Day: Film the Blanks
Film the Blanks is an ongoing art experiment where every week a movie poster is abstracted/reduced to very little of what the original poster looks like. To play, commenters take a stab at what movie the poster is from, and the first 10 correct commenters are awarded a point each. You can play for your chance at a prize- at a 100, I think you get a printed version of one of the posters. I don't participate in that sense, but I do like checking the site from time to time. I'm not a movie buff and I'm not all too familiar with MOST of these posters, but I like checking the site cause the blanked out posters are works of arts themselves. But for the most part, I have no idea where many of posters are from. However, I guessed this one to the left as soon as I saw it. It is from my favorite movie ever, and I think it's one of the easier ones on the site. Any takers?

Site of the Day: My Life is Average
Back in February, I posted about the now popular site F My Life (FML). Not to be outdone, some geniuses came up with the site, My Life is Average (MLIA).
I want to say that it's so average .. that it's cute. It definitely makes you chuckle or at least smile :)
My favorite?
"Today, when I was taking a shower, I realized I was out of body wash, so I used bar soap instead. MLIA."

Site of the Day: Why the F*** Do You Have A Kid?
I found another winner, guys!
Why the F*** Do You Have A Kid? is pretty self-explanatory .. it features Fail Blog-esque photos of parenting at its worst.

Site of the Day: Pocket Edward
In case you haven't noticed, fellow Life in Boxes editor Jen and I LOVE the hawtness that is Robert Pattinson, of Twilight fame.
But alas, for every RPattz fan, there's a hater. But I think I've found the perfect middle ground to satisfy both sides: meet Pocket Edward! Basically, it's random photos of the figurine of Edward Cullen .. with the aptly named site, "Big World, Little Pocket."

Site of the Day: People Who Sit In The Disability Seats When I'm Standing On My Crutches
Whew. That was a mouthful (yeah, yeah, "That's what she said" .. go kill yourself).
Anyway, People Who Sit In The Disability Seats When I'm Standing On My Crutches is hilarious .. random photos of people being assholes, along an unnamed, crutched person's journey to wherever in NYC, by means of the lovely NYC subway. It really makes me think twice about how NYC was supposedly named one of the top friendliest cities in the U.S., with articles stating that NYC is soo friendly! Um, sure .. tell that to our crippled friend who is probably still standing, taking photos of the assholes who won't offer up their seats.

Twitter is Kind of Sad, Kind of Cool
In case you have been living under a rock, Twitter is the new Facebook .. sort of. It all started with the idea of microblogging, and has now grown into a big social networking ordeal, where people can update their statuses about anything and everything, as long as they have access to the Internet.
Anyway, a coworker linked me to the following video, from Al Gore's independent media company, current tv. The video is kind of cheesy, over-dramatic, and somewhat true:
Anyway, shameless plug, but you can follow me and fellow LiB editor Jen (she tweeted at the Britney Spears show!) on Twitter, too!

Korean Moms are Funny
Throughout the past 23ish years of my life, I've received my fair share of little notes of reminders and such from my mom. Honestly, I wonder what goes through her 파마 머리 (permed head) when she's rushing in the morning, and stopping to write out a quick little note to me. "Hm, should I write it in Korean? Nah, she can barely understand Korean (true to some degree -_-) .. let me show off my English skillz and leave her a note in English!"
From notes telling me "Putting them in the bank" (depositing checks for her), my mom's English isn't as bad as others.
For more convincing, check out My Mom is a Fob, a site in which kids across the Internet can submit their very own proof as to why their mom is a fob.
My favorite of these sites that focus on the weirdisms of moms? Definitely Stuff Korean Moms Like. So true, that it's scary.

Fun Stuff of the Day: Obamaicon Me

This is old news, but my friend Stella is like on overdrive Obamacizing pictures of me, so I thought I'd write about it. You know those cool Obama campaign posters during last year's elections, well, you can be Obamacized too! Just upload your picture at Obamicon.Me, fill in the caption, and you get your very own coool poster. They have samples at the site, my favorite is the one above. Shamwow!
And let me present you with Stella's creative creation:
Which was made from the following pic, taken from our trip to Paris last year. BEST.TRIP.EVER.
Go crazy, folks!

C-c-check It Out: Daily Plate
Sure, it doesn't feel like winter is going to be passing by any time soon. But rather than continuing through hibernation mode (staying indoors, eating like a fattycakes), why not get a head-start in getting back into shape?
Check out The Daily Plate. It helps you keep track of what you eat, and helps you find the ideal calorie consumption per day for yourself, depending on your current weight, height, age, etc.
I've been on it for a few days, as have fellow LiB editors Jorge and Jen. The way I see it (get ready for a nerdy analogy), it's like playing a RPG game .. but it's real life! You have your food ration points, and the benefits?? Your health!
But seriously, I highly recommend people to check it out. And for you iPhone users, you can download the free app to help you keep track of what you eat via iPhone.

Blog of the Day: This is Why You're Fat.

In case you're wondering, that is a sloppy joe on a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Enough said. Be prepared to salivate, cringe in disgust, or just be in amazement. Every time I visit the site, I feel like I'm gaining 30 lbs THROUGH MY EYES. It's really like an accident you can't look away from. Enjoy this little bit of food porn, and remember: This is why you're fat.

Site of the Day: F My Life (FML)

I love acronyms (FTW!). And good website. And sometimes a glass of scotch. (haha, sorry, I couldn't resist)
F My Life is an awesome site where people can anonymously post a few sentences about events in their life that have led them to the intertwining conclusion: f*ck my life (FML).
Sure, they're probably not even all real scenarios. But it doesn't stop me from read through them and laughing.
My favorite one goes as followed:
Today, my girlfriend dumped me proclaiming she wanted someone more like her "Edward". I asked her who Edward was. She held up a copy her "Twilight" book. She was talking about a fictional vampire. FML.
Edward Cullen FTW!
