My Sassy Girl

My Sassy Girl is a HI-larious Korean romantic comedy about a really dysfunctional couple, and it is one of my favorite movies. I reacted the same way I always do when Hollywood takes an international hit and decides to re-make it: with disdain that they're going to ruin the movie and dumb it down for the American audience. To make matters worse, when they announced the cast, I didn't think Elisha Cuthbert, who is no Ji-Hyun Jeon, was right for the lead role. But, the newly released trailer for the American My Sassy Girl (being released later this year) actually makes the remake look decent. Perhaps it's cause most of the scenes in the trailer are from the original movie, but whatever. Here are the trailers for the 2 films, for your comparing pleasure.

ive been hearing about this remake for a while now, and it looks ehhhh. elisa cuthbert comes off as a crazy bitch playing cute. hollywood usually butchers these foreign film remakes.

I'm looking forward to the remake. Not with high expectations though. Keeps me open to being pleasantly surprised instead of bitterly disappointed.

I thought Elisha Cuthbert did pretty well in The Girl Next Door in a similar role, so I'm not unhappy with the casting.

That chemistry between the two in the original... that's going to be hard to reproduce and I wonder/worry that the production team will completely screw things up by either trying to be too faithful to the original (some aspects may be too uniquely Korean) or try and adapt things too much for American audiences (losing the charm of the original.) Tough balance.

I'm definitely watching it though. Eventually. At the very least I'll have fun comparing/contrasting the two versions.

It's a good post, but it's funny how I've seen the same "poster+two trailers" post three times this week.

I like I like!

Your post that is.
This is one of my favorite movies, for many reasons. Although I know I'll be disappointed at the remake, I have to see it.

Thanks for the trailers.
