Oprah premiered the Eclipse trailer on her show yesterday (surrounded by Twihards - what was she thinking??):
A few things to note:
-I really really dislike seeing Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria.
-RPattz is looking more and more sickly as Edward. New makeup artist, please.
-The army of "young" vampires coming out of the water reminded me of zombies.
-I think that the entire time I see the movie, I will either be looking at Kristen Stewart's bad wig or ..
-Taylor Lautner's abs FTW.
Eclipse will be out in theaters on June 30, 2010!

2012
I LOVE end-of-the-world movies. Alien invasians, natural calamities, uncontrollable asteroids speeding toward Earth, you name it. On my commute into work recently, I've been passing a huge billboard with the simple tagline, "We were warned." Ummmmmm. Creepy! And exciting! So I searched for "2012" (cause the billboard told me to), and came upon the new movie by the director of Independence Day (one of my favorites) and The Day After Tomorrow, Roland Emmerich. The premise of the movie is that the sudden collapse of the Earth's crust leads to global mass destruction, leaving few survivors to struggle for their lives. OK. This is the stuff I eat up. End of the world?? CHECK. Mass destruction?? CHECK. The guy who brought us Independence Day?? CHECK. So.. Why am I not excited upon watching the trailer??
I think it has something to do with the fact that, oh I don't know, in the 2 min trailer alone, they just blew EVERYTHING up! I know, that's what end-of-the-Earth-destruction is, but something about the non-subtlety of this movie, along with the fact that if you really think about it, thousands upon thousands of human lives are vanishing with each CGI-induced explosion. Also, the movie looks like there will be very little plot. Just explosions and mass destructions. For 2 hours. Oy vey. Maybe I am growing up a little, but this destructo-porn is not sitting well with me. Oh, who am I kidding, you know I'll be watching this in the theater! Judge for yourself:

Coming Soon: Fantastic Mr. Fox
One of the many people I admire is Wes Anderson. A good majority of my favorite films have been helmed by the man, and I have nothing but love for his quirky style.
Add on my childhood favorite author, Roald Dahl, and you get Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Movie I Want To See: New York, I Love You
Hi! It's been a while since you heard from me, right? How are you??

Where the Wild Things Are
I don't really remember Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are, so I wasn't as uberly excited about the live-action movie version coming out on October 16 as some people have been. I thought the first trailer did a good job of making it look magical and cute, but I kinda love this latest trailer, which is a bit more focused on the "wild things." The movie looks so imaginative and sweet and the "wild things" are so endearing! Oh, and good job trailer people for using one of my favorite Arcade Fire songs ("Wake Up") in all of the trailers. How fitting!

The September Issue
The world is still mourning the death of the greatest pop culture icon who ever lived, Michael Jackson, who I find endlessly fascinating, and who I think is the most irreplaceable figure in the world of pop culture. On a complete opposite note, another pop culture icon who I also find completely fascinating is Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour (I'm not comparing Michael Jackson to Anna Wintour in any way, btw!). Anna has been on the map for decades, but her popularity exploded in 2006 with the hit-movie The Devil Wears Prada. Based on a fictional book by the same name, it was widely speculated that Meryl Streep's character, who strikes fear in the hearts of all who work for her, is based on Anna.
She may be scary, she may be not, but she is no doubt the most influential figure in the billions dollar industry that is fashion. What she likes sells, what she doesn't like fades into obscurity. Is it good for one person to hold that much power? Probably not. But she's still super fascinating, and I can't wait for this documentary titled "The September Issue" to open. September is the most important month in fashion, and the documentary follows Wintour as she preps for the 2008 fall-fashion issue. SO EXCITING. I've never heard her talk, so this is doubly exciting for me. Oh, and I also want to know how she keeps her bob so perfect all the time, but I doubt that will be covered in the film...

Trailer of the Day: Nine
I don't know what the premise of this movie is, but it has like a crapload of stars, or should I say, amazing actors- Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard (MY GIRL CRUSH), Fergie. It looks to be some sort of musical? The trailer doesn't do much to explain the plot, but I am intrigued. Very much so. Beautiful women (seriously, LOVE. Marion.Cotillard.), high production scale. This brings me back to the summer where I just watched Moulin Rouge over and over again. I love musicals!

Movie I Want to Watch: Paper Heart
Despite hearing random grumblings that Michael Cera is a little douchebag, I actually like him. Sure, he plays the same nervous, cutesy dork character, but it's quite endearing :)
Anyway, with that said, I want to watch Paper Heart. Basically, the movie follows a documentary-style in which Charlene Yi (holy cow, she's apparently like 33 years old!)tries to find what "love" is, claiming that she does not believe in it. On her journey, she ends up falling for Michael Cera.
It looks a bit quirky, and maybe tries a bit too hard, but it has definitely piqued my interest.

Movie I Want to Watch: My Sister's Keeper
I'm not really a big fan of Jodi Picoult books, but the one book I do admit to liking is My Sister's Keeper. And lo and behold, we're finally seeing a trailer for the movie adaptation of the book:
Why do I want to watch it? Well, as mentioned earlier, it was a pretty good book. Secondly, Alec Baldwin is in it, and we all know how much I LOVE 30 Rock. I mean, there's not much I can say about this upcoming movie that can't be shown by the trailer; I saw this trailer whilst seeing 17 Again yesterday, and couldn't help but to hold back the tears from filling my eyes.
My Sister's Keeper is set to be released on June 26, 2009.

Trailer of the Day: Away We Go
I love indie films, or films that give off that indie-esque vibe. They seem more like labors of love than big time Hollywood studio movies, when you know the limited budget has the cast and crew scrambling to find resources and be a hell of a lot more creative than having millions thrown at you from some studio exec. Anyways. I can't really tell if Away We Go is an indie per se. I mean, it's directed by Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road, American Beauty) and stars some really interesting and famous actors. But the trailer makes the movie have a Juno-feel to it, and has made it one of my most anticipated movies of the year- a bearded John Krasinski (aka Jim Halpert on The Office), the always funny Maya Rudolph, plus a slew of stars. A couple looking to find a place to start a family, the relatable theme of feeling lost and displaced, subtle humor- it's all in here. And it looks AWESOME! And this isn't just because I want to eventually marry JKras and have lots of babies with him..What?

Movie Trailer of the Day: 17 Again
I have my fair share of young Hollywood crushes. Sadness, I know. But one of my top crushes is Zac Efron -_- I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but I seriously heart the High School Musical series :x
Anyway, I really can't wait for 17 Again to pop out in theaters. Sure, Zac Efron gets to don the basketball shorts and play a star basketball player (like in High School Musical), but the tipping point for me was Matthew Perry, otherwise known as Chandler Bing, my favorite actor from Friends! :) But besides those two elements, 17 Again looks like a wholesome-ish movie, and sometimes I'm just in the mood for a nice family movie.
Sure Zac Efron isn't really spreading his wings too far away from his humble HSM beginnings, nor has Matthew Perry had a decent flick since the end of Friends, but a girl can have hopes, right?
17 Again is set to be released in theaters on April 17, 2009.

WTF of the Day: The Ramen Girl?
Brittany Murphy, WTF?
Sure, your past roles haven't been exactly stellar. But really? Really?
It seems to be going along the lines of Lost in Translation. Girl comes to foreign country with her significant other. Byebye significant other. How to deal in new land? Find something meaningful in life.
But instead of Girl comes to foreign land with husband, it's her boyfriend, who ends up leaving her. And instead of befriending an old movie actor, she befriends a pro ramen maker, and finds her true calling in life by means of ramen. Friends, this movie is called The Ramen Girl.
I can only imagine what sort of conversation went on between her and her agent when discussing the role..

Movie I Want To Watch: I Love You, Man
I know, I know. Another post. But hey, we're just excited for the movies of 2009!
Reasons why I want to see I Love You, Man:
5. Use of a Vampire Weekend song in the trailer.
4. Comedy flick - I loves me a good comedy!
3. Andy Samberg - I heart him on SNL, and I've been scared because of their lack of showtime for him on air. It's a relief to see him in a decent-looking film.
2. Jason Segel - I LOVE him as Marshall on How I Met Your Mother. And he was pretty funny in that other movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
1. Paul Rudd! Need I say more?
Other reasons might include awkward moments, puggles, etc.
Keep your eye out for it - its theatrical release date is aimed for March 20, 2009.

Movie I want to watch: Veronika Decides to Die
Like Julia, I really like romantic comedies. I also really like movie adaptations of books. I know movie adaptations can be hit or miss, but I like to think that they start off better than your average movie, just cause no one is going to try to make a movie out of a bad book. So you at least have a good story as the foundation, even if the execution of it falls apart. There are several movie adaptations of books that I actually like better than the book itself, Bridget Jones's Diary being one of them, so I normally have high hopes for books-turned-into-films.
Well, I've been intrigued by the plot of this book since I stumbled upon it a couple of months ago, and though I still haven't gotten around to reading this Paul Coelho's book (or the supposedly AWESOME The Alchemist for that matter), I was super excited when I heard it was going to be made into a movie starring the talented Sarah Michelle Gellar. Veronika Decides to Die is about a 24 year old woman (Gellar) who seems to have everything but the will to live. So she decides to off herself, only to wake up in a mental institution, with the news that her botched suicide attempt has left her with a damaged heart and only days to survive. In this time she discovers a newfound will to live, and well, you know the rest of the movie/book is about that journey. Sounds interesting, yes? Veronika Decides to Die will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. From there hopefully it'll find a distributor so that the rest of the world can see it.
Oh, and bonus points for using the awesome Foo Fighters song Stranger Things Have Happened. Well done, trailer people!

Movie I Want To Watch: The Ugly Truth
I am a fan of chick flicks. The Wedding Planner, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Definitely, Maybe, etc. - you name it, I've probably seen it (and probably dragged the boyfriend, too!).
Anyway, I saw the trailer for The Ugly Truth today .. and I WANT TO SEE IT! Besides the fact that I kind of dislike Katherine Heigl (she really likes to bite the hand that feeds), Gerard Butler is a handsome piece of man, and I love a good chick flick. It'll be out in theaters on April 3, 2009.
