Gross of the Day: Fir Tree Growth in Lung

Um, yes I did say "Fir tree growth in lung." And yes, I am being totally literal.

WARNING: Picture is a bit gross/graphic. Be warned before you decide to 'Click for more' ..

A five-centimeter fir tree has been found in the lung of a man who complained he had a strong pain in his chest and was coughing blood...Doctors x-rayed his chest and found a tumor in one of the lungs. Suspecting cancer, they made a decision to perform biopsy, but when they cut the tissue, they were amazed to see green needles in the cut...It is obvious that a five-centimeter branch is too large to be inhaled or swallowed, doctors say. They suggest that the patient might have inhaled a small bud, which then started to grow inside his body." (mosnews.com)

Blerg, yo. I'm a hypochondriac, and this bit of news has just added itself onto my list of possible illnesses :x

Earth Hour: Vote Earth!

Having lived on Earth for almost 24 years of my life, I'm a big fan of this planet. In fact, I hope that my future kids and grandkids get to enjoy the simple things that many are taking for granted, such as fresh air, green grass, wildlife, etc.

With that being said, here's a little friendly reminder: Earth Hour is tomorrow! So get ready to turn off your light switch to VOTE EARTH:

--

"This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm." (from earthhour.org)

And to read that their daughter was a product of unprotected sex WHEN THE BOY WAS ONLY 12. Holy cow. Holy freaking cow.

They need to start teaching sex ed a little earlier.

Condom, Condom Ringtone

In order to promote safe sex and awareness of HIV/Aids, a cellphone ringtone that features an a cappella chanting "Condom, condom" has been launched:

The a cappella ring tone features a professional singer chanting the word condom more than 50 times, a playful approach that public health activists hope will spark discussion and make condoms more socially acceptable. "We've made a conscious effort to move the concept of the condom away from negative association, like HIV and sex work," said Yvonne MacPherson, country director of BBC World Service Trust India. "Condoms are actually health products and if you have a condom and you use it, you are seen to be smart and responsible."...The BBC group, which is funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, hopes the condom ring tone can make people in India more comfortable with safe sex issues.(timesofindia.com)
