Happy Birthday, Barbie!

If you're a girl, then you should be very happy about a certain someone's birthday today. The Barbie we all know and love and have grown up with (do NOT tell me you never played with a Barbie, girls AND boys!) is 50 years old today, and she doesn't look a day older. Yes, Barbie and her impossible figure have been the source of many controversies over the years for promoting unhealthy body images, but whatever. For good or bad, I fully credit Barbie with giving me a sense of style- no joke, dressing her up in crazy outfits and accessorizing her made me the wannabe fashionista I am today. In honor of the special one's birthday, here are some fun facts:

* Barbie is owned by 90 % of American girls ages 3-10.

* Three Barbies are sold somewhere in the world every second.

* Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.

* The very first Barbies sold in 1959 were $3 per doll. One of those dolls today, in good condition, will cost you $27,450.

* Barbie has held down 180 careers - doctor, vet, police officer, ice skater, astronaut, presidential candidate (MOVE OVER Barack), etc.

* Mattel (Barbie's maker) is considered to be one of the largest apparel manufacturers in the world, because of all the fabrics used to outfit Barbies.

* At 10 million sold, Totally Hair Barbie (pictured) is the bestest selling Barbie ever.
