The world is still mourning the death of the greatest pop culture icon who ever lived, Michael Jackson, who I find endlessly fascinating, and who I think is the most irreplaceable figure in the world of pop culture. On a complete opposite note, another pop culture icon who I also find completely fascinating is Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour (I'm not comparing Michael Jackson to Anna Wintour in any way, btw!). Anna has been on the map for decades, but her popularity exploded in 2006 with the hit-movie The Devil Wears Prada. Based on a fictional book by the same name, it was widely speculated that Meryl Streep's character, who strikes fear in the hearts of all who work for her, is based on Anna.
She may be scary, she may be not, but she is no doubt the most influential figure in the billions dollar industry that is fashion. What she likes sells, what she doesn't like fades into obscurity. Is it good for one person to hold that much power? Probably not. But she's still super fascinating, and I can't wait for this documentary titled "The September Issue" to open. September is the most important month in fashion, and the documentary follows Wintour as she preps for the 2008 fall-fashion issue. SO EXCITING. I've never heard her talk, so this is doubly exciting for me. Oh, and I also want to know how she keeps her bob so perfect all the time, but I doubt that will be covered in the film...

Kollaboration New York!
My life for the past few weeks has been: Kollaboration NY, church, Kollaboration NY, swine flu (ok, kidding.. I don't think it's swine...yet), work, Kollaboration NY. I mentioned this in a post a couple of weeks back, but the big day is tomorrow! Even though there is still so much work to be done and I'm stressed out to the max, I'm excited. My friends will be coming out to support me (not that I'm going to be on stage or anything, I'm just staff), and besides for the fact that I'm working on this event ALL MORNING/DAY/NIGHT tomorrow, it's truly going to be a great show. As of this morning, we've officially SOLD OUT, but here is a taste of what you are missing out on, or what you should expect to see if you are coming out.

Free White Castle!
I love White Castle, yo. Did you know that they're the oldest hamburger chain in America (88 years young)? Take advantage of this coupon. I'm not as powerful as Oprah, so I don't foresee a mass of people running to White Castle for their free slider and them being overwhelmed by the response. But yes, White Castle sliders are yummy. Offer expires 7/12!

Perez Hilton is an idiot.
So the very HOT news this morning is that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton alleges that Black Eyed Peas frontrunner will.i.am assaulted him after the MuchMusic Awards in Toronto last night. What? Um, ok, fine. The kicker here is that Perez twittered his call for help, saying:
I'm in shock. I need the police ASAP. Please come to the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel now. Please.
Followed by:
I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.
Which was then followed by:
Still waiting for the police. The bleeding has stopped. I need to document this. Please, can the police come to the SoHo Met Hotel.
Um, ok, can we talk about what an asshole Perez is? I don't condone violence, and if what he is alleging is true, then well, will.i.am should be in serious trouble (which he has already denied in this video blog response) But, seriously. Perez had the time to log onto twitter to ask his "fans" for help in calling the police, but couldn't do it himself? You're bleeding and in shock, great, call the popo, don't twitter about it. Now, this is probably an ingenious move on Perez's part actually, using the social networking site to tell his side of the story, before word got out through other outlets, thus having full control of the story FIRST. But to me, it just made him look even more retarded, conniving, and DRAMATIC than he usually is. Maybe he'd have more sympathy from me (and others, as comments on the incident have been pretty divisive) if he was a bit more respectful to others. Is Twitter the next call-for-help service? Is Perez a dumbass? Am I just jealous cause I don't have enough followers on Twitter to have call the police for me should I choose to do the same? Idk, maybe... =P Oh what questions to ponder on this Monday.

Summer Song '09!
Plain and simple, here is my pick for the Summer Song of 2009. I know it's still early, but this is so uplifting and summer-y, and I think it'll be at the top of the charts all summer long. If I had a convertible I'd want to blast this while driving with the top down. I will just have to play it in my little AC-blasting Honda instead...
I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
Stalking R.Pattz
Ok you crazy fans, enough is enough, and you have got to stop. I too, am super excited that my future husband Robert Pattinson is in NYC shooting a movie. And I keep track of where he is filming and what he is doing, though this little thing called being-at-work prevents me from running over to where he is at any given moment. But seriously? He freakin got hit by a car running away from us crazy fans!! Ok, grazed, but whatever.
Listen, I know it's super exciting to have him out and about in the city. But let's just make something very clear, he's here to work. Don't interfere with that, or no producer is going to want to hire him in the future, as HOT and TALENTED as he is. Is that what you want for him??
And Robert, just remember, this whole Beatles-esque mania thing is temporary. I think you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, so I'm sure you know this already, but your insane fame has a shelf life. In 3 years (give or take) you will still be hot and hot, but you won't be mobbed. Cause as intense as this is, there's always a new RPattz waiting in the wings for his 15 minutes. So just tough it out, laugh about it like you have been doing, take things in stride, and of course, remain HOT.

Site of the Day: Ugliest Tattoos
In a past post, I mentioned that I wanted to get a tattoo. And then I found this little gem of a site - Ugliest Tattoos: The Gallery of Regrets.
Let me just say this: WTF are these people thinking when they got these tattoos??
Like this particular number:
Wow. Simply stunning. But be warned: some of these tattoos are NSFW.

Top 200 Artists of the 20th Century
The Times UK recently had an online poll on who people thought was the Top Modern Artist (20th century). Not surprisingly, Pablo Picasso took home the top spot. I may not be the hugest fan of Picasso's, but one of my life goals is to go to Madrid and take in Guernica, his masterpiece of the bombing of Guernica, Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Chills.
I love modern art and am so glad most of my favorite artists are on this list- Cindy Sherman (#50), Jackson Pollock (#7), Frida Kahlo (#19), Mark Rothko (#28)! Click on each artist's name for more info on their work. LOVE LOVE LOVE! It only took one class and one professor to change the course of my college career and open my eyes to a lifelong passion. And yes, you can say, 'Omg, I can totally make that!' but you didn't, so just shut it. =P I hope you love modern art as much as I do!
Most Useful Site EVER: Run Pee
You know what annoying about going to see a movie? The fact that movies are super epic. I mean, yeah, not as epic as Titanic, with its whopping running time of 3 hours, but you've got to admit, movies are soo effing long.
But of course, with that said, as a movie lover (yes, I will dish out the freaking $12+ to see a new movie), I HAVE TO watch every.single.minute. Which means .. my bladder dies.
Fear not, though! Run Pee is this awesome site that pretty much lets you know at what point in a movie is an optimal time to get up and use the bathroom. They have a huge selection of movies for you to take a gander at, including ones that are currently out in theaters.
And don't worry, it's pretty much spoiler-free (you can unscramble a text summary of a movie scene you might miss, if you take more than 4 minutes for a designated bathroom run).

Why I Love TV: Glee
If you haven't heard, Glee is freaking awesome. The pilot episode premiered right after American Idol a few weeks back .. yeah, it was some time ago, but I don't watch American Idol, okay??
Anyway, Glee is a new comedy on Fox that focuses around a high school glee club. Sound familiar? Well, it's not. And they have a bitchin' performance of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" (yes, it's on iTunes, too).
The series has a strong cast of some familiar Broadway faces, as well as upcoming guest stars lined up. But Fox was being tricky and chose to premiere the pilot now, and continue the season later in the fall.
Check out the pilot episode:
And see the what the season will have in store for us .. coming soon in the fall!

Asian Poses!
I have a site for all you people with Asian fetishes! OR, a site for those who just want to laugh at the most ridonk, saccharinely-sweet, over the top poses known to man kind. Asian Poses is a blog that features photos of Asian girls employing their best annoying pose. It's actually pretty funny stuff, because we've all seen these poses and have made fun of, if not striked one (or two or three) of them ourselves. The girls are pretty, if that helps. I think I'm going to start employing the 'Call me!' pose in all of my pictures from now on. :) Call Me!

Britney Spears back on tour!
If I were to... say, have gone to 2 Britney Spears concerts this year, would that make me a crazy superfan? Would you be embarrassed to know me? Hmm. Do I really care at this point? Not really.
This morning's BREAKING NEWS (yes, this is what I consider important news) is that Britney is coming back to North America in August after she finishes her tour in Europe. While I worry that she is burning out, having been on tour for 6 months, I kinda am selfish and want more. (Gimme, gimme, more!!) And seeing how she's booked for 2 nights at Madison Sq. Garden, I can probably add one of those nights to my list of to-dos for the summer. Britney, pat yourself on the back for being the highest grossing tour of 09 so far!
Here are the tour dates, the tickets go on sale next Friday the 19th! YESS.
Twilighters Reacting to the New Moon Trailer
I personally was watching the MTV Movie Awards just so I could catch the trailer for New Moon, too .. but this is too much. Definitely over-done; I hope that this isn't really how girls across the world were reacting -_-

Movie Review: The Hangover
This past weekend, I ended up watching two movies- Up and The Hangover. I loved Up- Pixar has a special place in my heart, and the first 20 minutes of the movie was the cutest and most heartwarming thing ever. But I have to say, my favorite movie of this year so far has to be the surprise that was The Hangover. I wasn't expecting much from it because I didn't really know what to expect going into it. So I was really surprised when we got to the theater and it was PACKED. And though I thought I was going to go cross-eyed from sitting in the last available seat in the very first row, omg, was it worth it.
The Hangover is about 4 grown men who head to Vegas for a bachelor party for one of their own. The fun really kicks in when 3 of the men wake up in the morning completely hung over and unable to remember what happened the night before. The 4th, the guy who the bachelor party was for, has disappeared, and the rest of the film is about the three friends trying to figure out what the heck happened the night before, and track down their missing friend. The movie doesn't have big time stars, but it does have genuinely funny actors who all bring their A-game, and who I think will become big stars in their own right pretty soon: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms (aka Andy Bernard on the Office), Zack Galifianakis (this film's breakout star). They all have really great chemistry together and play on each other well, and part of what makes the film so funny is the interaction they have with one another, in particular with Zack's character.
I just have to say: Heather Graham, Mike Tyson, a wild tiger, the cutest baby ever. Have I piqued your interest yet? So hilarious, it's really silly mindless fun. GO WATCH IT.
Awkward TV: Zack Morris on Jimmy Fallon
I LOVED Saved By the Bell. But to see Mark-Paul Gosselaar in character as Zack Morris was kind of .. cringe-worthy.
Funny Photo of the Day
'Cause you know, all caps text can only mean one thing. THAT YOU'RE EFFING UPSET OVER SOMETHING AND WANT TO HURL AN ICEBERG ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!

Did any of you catch the 2009 Tony Awards last night? I caught a bit of it, and the part I just happened to catch was HILARIOUS.

Coming Soon: Remake of Short Circuit
Variety reports that there will be a Short Circuit remake on the horizon, penned by Dan Milano (Robot Chicken).
"David Foster, who produced the original and is back to produce the remake with Ryan E. Heppe and John Hyde, said that Milano first watched the original while he was in high school, and sparked to updating the concept...'We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals,' Foster said." Clever Idea: Emergency Cuff Links
In case you have been living under a rock, Lifehacker is an awesome site. "Tips and downloads for getting stuff done." Aptly said.
With that said, this article on emergency cuff links stood out to me even though a) I am not a boy, b) I don't wear dress shirts that require cuff links, and c) I don't get what the purpose of cuff links are. All I do know is that I notice cuff links when boys wear them.
I'm definitely linking this to all my guy friends.

Movie News Roundup!
Here are some interesting movie tidbits making the news today.
* Updated Hamlet to be helmed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke
I love Hamlet, it's my favorite Shakespeare play (Ophelia is one of my favorite fictional characters), I looove Emile Hirsch (watch Into the Woods if you haven't already. NOW.). I kinda hate Catherine Hardwicke. She ruined Twilight by making it look like an amateur film school experiment, and she acts like she's 16-- "oh my god you guys, thank you so much, this is so cool, woohooo!" So I don't know how I feel about this adaptation. I loooove Hamlet. I haaaate Catherine.
* A Weeklong Twilight Cruise
You know I'm a huge fan of Twilight, but I will draw the line at spending a week with fellow CRAZY Twilight fans. On a boat. In the middle of the ocean. This just seems like a terrible idea. I wouldn't be on this cruise even if Robert Pattinson was going to be there. Actually scratch that, who am I kidding, you know I'd be like purchasing my ticket as we speak if he were to be on that ship. A weeklong cruise with RPattz?? Dream.come.true. So what if I'll have to fend off a thousand other girls? Bring it.
* Where's Waldo: The Movie.
Speaking of terrible ideas. Um, what?? How will this even work? Terrible.
* Thirst comes to the States
Park Chan Wook's Oldboy is one of my favorite movies ever. So original, such great cinematograpgy. I'm just a huge fan in general. His latest is a vampire thriller called Thirst (the movie for the provocative poster on the left), and it recently competed and screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Well, the good news is that it was well received, and the better news is that Focus Films picked it up to distribute in the States. July 31st, mark your calendars. Here is the trailer- sorry it's not subbed.
WTF Photos of the Day: Bus in Creek
On my commute to work this morning, LiB friend Steve sent me an urgent text message, telling me to check Twitter. At the next stop light, I quickly checked Twitteriffic and saw the following photos:
That, friends, is the creek next to Palisades Park Junior Senior High School (warning: ghetto website link). According to Steve, a bunch of teachers and students were outside, and they had to pull out the bus driver to safety.
Details pending!
*Thanks to Steve for the tip and photos!

Burt's Bee Giveaway
I'm a fan of Burt's Bees, the makers of the famous minty lip balm that is so so refreshing. I'm probably not as huge of a fan as my friend Leslie, who goes through a tube in 3 weeks (I don't think I've ever finished one before either losing it or getting a new one), but nonetheless I like their stuff. Anyways, the Earth-loving company is celebrating its 25th year anniversary by giving away tons of free stuff, including 25,000 tubes of their famous lip balm (1,000 per day). Go to this site for the giveaway, and preferably in the morning between 9am-noon, or else the day's stash will run out. The site also features celebrity "toasts" and fun facts. It's cute.
SYTYCD + DLD = FTW!
I've never seen an episode of So You Think You Can Dance. But after perusing through Just Jared, I had to reread a post he did on a particular audition for So You Think You Can Dance. Why? Um, 3 words: Daphne Loves Derby.
Turns out 17 year old Nathan Trasoras auditioned to Daphne Loves Derby's "Pollen and Salt." Freaking awesome song. And the kid's dancing is pretty impressive. So impressive that the judges granted him a ticket for next year's show (because he's 17, he's too young for this season's show). He wins in my book.
See the audition here:
